We can surely find Him when we’re jammed up, can’t we? While His existence is widely debated, many swear that He delivers. He’s been known to creep into prison cells and bring hardened criminals to their knees for the first time. We search for Him in sickness, divorce, hospitals, and funerals. We shout His name in churches and betray him at home when the lights turn out, and the darkness takes control of fathers eyeing their daughters; mothers looking away. We choose liquor and lust to quench our thirsts; drugs to escape until it leads to irreversible health issues. And that “jam” referred to earlier has to threaten our freedom before we can sometimes uncurl our tongues to His name. Even then, we know we’re not genuine, because we had many years to do so and much to be grateful for. The one-syllable name leaves a residue after what we did. He’s called Yahweh, with over 100 descriptive titles and compound names (JW.org). But most of His followers call Him God.
