The colloquial names for breasts have been quite colorful— “fun bags,” “knockers,” “racks,” “hooters,” and “boobs.” Carrie’s mother referred to them as “dirtypillows” in Stephen King’s novel, Carrie. While the ass-phenom has exploded, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there has not been a precipitous drop in women receiving breast augmentation. Instead, the trend for smaller breasts to achieve a more natural appearance is in demand, while it still may be causing mysterious illnesses.

The documentary Explant makes a compelling case against the procedure and sheds light on “Breast Implant Illness” (BII) or lymphatic system strain related to long-term implants. Two celebrity women have the same slow-moving, “not quite there” appearance, and no one’s talking about it.

Former talk show host Wendy Williams has proudly discussed her breast implants, even expressing regret over going “so big,” but said she wasn’t taking any steps towards reduction. The former radio host assertively added that she would remove them without hesitation if she received breast cancer news. Currently, Williams is battling health concerns that mirror those examined in  Michelle Visage’s film Explant—chronic fatigue, brain fog, joint pain, and autoimmune disorders (none of these symptoms have been linked to breast implants by medical professionals). Explaining her symptoms, Williams says she has been diagnosed with Graves’ disease and lymphedema, but has not addressed any complications from breast implants. But Williams isn’t alone in this breast conspiracy. Another famous woman’s similar cognitive characteristics have been tabloid fodder.

Singer Mariah Carey has never admitted to breast augmentation, but the photos of a Vision-of-Love Mariah vs. We-Belong-Together Mariah look drastically different (I love them both). Talk of alcoholism and drug abuse has been swirling around the singer for years (Williams has been honest with her struggles with substance abuse), but just like Williams, Carey’s signs mimic those in Explant. It’s possible that Carey’s “symptoms” could be linked to lifestyle choices or other health issues, but it is clear to many that her movement has deteriorated over the years.

What’s unsettling is that both of these women’s identities appear wrapped up in bloated silicone. Both are gifted, attractive, iconic women, but neither seems willing to explore whether their vanity may be making them sick.

This is just a Lawton Lane News conspiracy theory, but I think I’m on to something. What say you?

Comedian and radio host Rickey Smiley recently expressed deep concern for black women on his social media platform, passionately cautioning the arguably most targeted gender about their movement in a society riddled with violence and racism, leaving an entire topic zip-locked—the black man’s hatred for black women.

While black people are only 13% of the US population, according to the Black and Missing Foundation, tens of thousands of black women and girls are reported missing annually, with their cases remaining open significantly longer and receiving less media attention [than other groups].

But is Smiley’s concern arriving too late? Who desires coming to the aid of “Bitches and Ho’s?” With hip hop being 50 years old, at least 35 of those years (first-generation rappers created music to educate and stimulate the mind and body) have been dedicated to debasing black women, so no one would value us enough to protect us. Where was Smiley’s voice all those years ago?

Smiley warned about the dangers of black women living in an environment where racism is heightened since Donald Trump slid into his second term, which leads some to wonder: is this tactic a desperate attempt to lure black women into the Democratic Party that they lost in VP Kamala Harris’ 2024 presidential campaign bid? Is this supposed to scare us back in line with “voting blue, no matter who?”

Racism is just a pittance of what’s killing black women. No one kills black women and their children more than black men (to be fair, no one kills white women and their children more than white men, because crime is tribal. People feel comfortable violating people who look like them). But Smiley won’t touch that issue. It is an unspoken rule in the “Black Community” that we don’t criticize black men or hold them accountable (Smiley has spoken against Bill Cosby and R. Kelly, but I’ve heard no pushback on the state of hip hop, partly due to rappers accusing black protesters of “taking food out of the black man’s mouth”).

In a climate where black people hate black women (black women hate black women, because black men hate black women), it is unfathomable to picture a black man being so concerned about the lives of black women when his voice remained silent on a topic that needs him to forcefully push back on its agenda—black men breaking black women down to rubbish.

I believe the agenda is political.

First they’re overweight, and then they’re too thin. Their hair, makeup, wardrobe, children, and the men they date are all fair game. It’s a never-ending cyclone of carping, as we tear women apart on social media, in school, church, the workplace, on the block, and in the entertainment industry. This time, it’s proving to be overwhelming for a petite (my apologies) singer with a big voice.

“Slave Contracts” have been an urban legend for decades. The general idea is that black entertainers are told that once they sign their contracts, enhancing or advancing black communities economically, socially, or politically in any way is not an option. Is there any truth to this?

After 20 years, Oprah Winfrey closes the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy School for Girls.

Winfrey opened the school in Africa in 2007, with many critics asking why Africa and not America. The former daytime talk show host often stated that American children “seemed to demand consumer goods instead of showing a passion to learn.”

On this website, the prevailing belief is that “slave contracts” exist and prohibit black entertainers from paying it forward, and perhaps Winfrey wasn’t allowed to build a school for poor black children in America. There are no Jay-Z state-of-the-art elementary schools in Brooklyn, no Beyonce’ School for Performing Arts in her home state of Texas or where she resides in New York or California for black youth, no Michael Jackson, Prince, Whitney Houston, Babyface, Sammy Davis Jr. academies anywhere in urban areas, which makes the “slave” myth attractive to skeptics.

One thing we can be certain of is that Black people have worked extremely hard to keep those “slave contracts” intact. Black entertainers have a long history of bailing out nearly every corner of the industry when it needed saving: Black exploitation films extricated the film industry from its almost irreparable financial woes; Eddie Murphy almost single-handedly rescued Saturday Night Live from its failing ratings; Dr. Dre, with his 1992 hit album, The Chronic, saved Interscope Records when it was on the verge of “closing its doors;” Venus and Serena Williams breathed new life into a sport that was predominantly played by whites; Tiger Woods dazzled the sport of golf, once thought of as a game only played and watched by old, white, retired men.

So, was Winfrey capitulating when she established her school in Africa instead of America? Lawton Lane believes so.

Women, try not to be easily bedazzled by men’s rare sentimental reactions, particularly of those readily welcoming other men into their spaces who’ve insulted their partners in the past, offering no pushback, no quip, not a furrowed brow.

Let us be reminded that Kevin Federline turned on the waterworks watching Brittany Spears walk down the aisle (we know how that ended). Lastly, not only are weddings emotional, but Travis is an actor now.

The world is a stage.

It was announced in 2008 that supermodel Gisele Bundchen and NFL star Tom Brady were engaged. Reports initially claimed the quarterback asked her to marry him while flying over Paris in a private jet. Later, Gisele stated the proposal was less romantic—he tricked her into believing her apartment was flooded, and when she arrived home, there were candles and rose petals where the flood was supposed to be(that’s still sort of romantic).

After the couple’s highly publicized 2022 divorce, Gisele claimed that she ran the household and prioritized the children, while Brady focused on his career for 13 years. She sounds as if she were the nanny the entire time. But Gisele was part of the lie; part of the cover-up.

Lawton Lane News, based in NYC, refused to cover the Taylor Swift/Travis Kelce wedding because it’s just another distraction. We have more important issues at hand—the effects of the war in Iran, fine-tuning our finances, and becoming more spiritually connected with the divine, which requires letting go of a desire for luxury goods and other material things.

However, this article is for every girl and woman (please, don’t be over 35 and green with envy over Taylor Swift’s wedding) eying Taylor Swift’s wedding with covetousness. You don’t know these people. Their job is to make you hate your life, or at the very least, doubt that it’s a good one.

My mother and father didn’t have a traditional marriage. I saw them laugh, I saw them debate, but I saw no passion. My father loved my mother unconditionally; my mother loved him conveniently. However, they managed to give me a memorable and beautiful childhood, for which I’ll always be grateful.

The unorthodox nature of their marriage did not deter me from getting married. Nor was it the boyfriends I’ve had—my relationships have been healthy and respectful. Instead, my reservations stem from how other women are treated, both within and outside the entertainment industry.

For example, men like Bill Clinton, Jay-Z, and Donald Trump made me pray my husband away. Because of this, I’m proud not to feel the same pressure my peers do to be married.

All the men listed above are married to women whom many find remarkable. Clinton found his equal in Hillary—academically, in ambition, and, I believe, in cunning. Not to mention, Hillary was very attractive in her youth. Beyoncé remains one of the most beautiful and talented women in the music industry, yet Jay-Z admitted to the New York Times that he cheated on her for 15 of their 17 years together. Donald Trump is married to a supermodel who is attractive by most people’s standards, accomplished, and has given him a beautiful son. Despite all these qualities, their husbands’ behavior remains unchanged.

Looking ahead, I don't know what the future holds for these women or for me. Still, I'm glad my parents decided not to have more children. Because I was often alone, my mother prepared me for solitude by insisting I dine alone in restaurants and see movies by myself. She understood that my high expectations for a future partner might make my journey challenging.

If I live another 20 years without finding true love—purposefully avoiding men like Clinton, Jay-Z, and Trump—I’ll quote the Dixie Chicks: “I paid a price, but I’ll keep paying.”

Consider Malcolm X, who did not attend high school or college but became a celebrated debater—thanks to his voracious reading and global travels. Similarly, President JFK, despite neglecting his Harvard education and relying on his father’s help, built strong reading habits while bedridden and broadened his perspective through travel. These experiences, rather than traditional academics, helped prepare him for the presidency.

If Santana had instead argued that formal education, such as college, is unnecessary for young people, more critics might have found common ground with his perspective.

While witnessing NBA star Klay Thompson defend his rapper girlfriend, Megan Thee Stallion, against Jason Williams' derogatory comments was admirable, it prompted me to reflect on the many who came before him, silently watching as men and the press publicly ridiculed and shamed their girlfriends, and even their wives.

In January 2013, the press and music insiders heavily criticized Beyoncé for lip-syncing the National Anthem at Obama's Inauguration. The singer's husband, rapper Jay-Z, never came to her defense. Instead, the woman who had spent years meticulously crafting a "strong woman" persona called a press conference to perform the National Anthem live, proving to the media that her singing ability hadn't lapsed. Her fans and naysayers had been familiar with her range as a vocalist for nearly two decades, because we've heard her sing live before. 

I wanted Jay-Z to tell the press to leave his wife alone. I wanted Beyoncé to issue a statement that read, "If you don't know I can sing my ass off by now, you're the problem, not my talent." But instead, she cowered. Her husband, as usual, through his silence, showed the world that women are unprotected and disrespected. But it isn't just Black women who lack defense from their partners.

During the 2024 presidential election, Donald Trump expressed in a social media post that he hated singer Taylor Swift after she endorsed VP Harris. In May 2025, Trump stated that Swift was "no longer hot." In both instances, Swift was dating 6'5", broad-shouldered NFL tight end Travis Kelce. His mouth stayed closed. Not only did Kelce never issue a statement, but when a reporter asked how he felt about Trump coming to see him play, he replied that it was always good to see a president at a game, regardless of who it was.

White men being more protective of their women than any other race of men is a delusion. Those who've been misled need to rethink their position and reflect on the many white women who Bill Cosby, Jeffrey Epstein, and Harvey Weinstein freely violated for years, without fear of any white father, brother, uncle, or friend retaliating.

The secret is out. As the smoke clears, the most unprotected and disrespected species becomes evident. It isn't just Black women that men don't create safe spaces for. Men value no race of women. However, that doesn't mean they stroll through life with no passion or conviction for anything.

Women have to sit on the sidelines and watch their partners take to the streets and burn jerseys of athletes who infuriated them after switching teams. We've seen male athletes fight each other over plays on the football field and the basketball court. Women look on as rappers kill each other over music, while they call women bitches and hoes and convince us that it's art.

My gender doesn't get retribution; we are put through a humiliation ritual in public and private, leaving us with lifelong memories of anger, shame, regret, precarious relationships, and self-doubt. It is a hard, cold fact that men don't love the way we do. Sadly, more women are adopting the personalities and narratives of men, weaponizing their words and deeds against their gender. Until we realize we are all each other has, we and our daughters will never have the protection needed in a world where the female gender isn’t safe, even in the spaces where we should be the most valued—schools, churches, homes.

This is a call to action. Women, we are all we have. Let’s move like it.

In the early 2000s, media outlets heavily promoted Cameron Diaz as an extraordinary beauty, insisting her appeal set a standard for women and was every man’s type.

Now, in 2025, history repeats itself with Sydney Sweeney, even though there is little to objectively set most white actresses apart beyond talent. This recurring cycle is further perpetuated by an overreliance on cosmetic enhancements, which result in uniform, expressionless appearances.

Meanwhile, the media only tends to highlight Black women’s beauty when it appears truly exceptional. For example, Kayla Nicole, the ex of NFL star Travis Kelce, recently showcased her talent by perfectly recreating a Toni Braxton video for Halloween—impressing audiences and fueling speculation about her influence on culture and relationships.

Against this backdrop, the ongoing comparison between Kayla Nicole and Taylor Swift highlights how race and socioeconomic factors shape perceptions of beauty. When confronted with Kayla’s appeal, Swift’s supporters often pivot toward emphasizing Swift’s financial and professional achievements instead.

These dynamics reveal an unwillingness by society and media to admit that white beauty standards are upheld by illusion rather than inherent superiority. Ultimately, Kayla Nicole’s distinctive and captivating presence signals that mainstream recognition of Black women’s beauty is overdue.

Rapper Megan Thee Stallion released her Lover Girl video last week to heavy criticism, which the entertainer is shrugging off as “bots and paid people.”

Is this scrutiny contrived, or is Megan pushing boundaries too far? The highly provocative style in her latest work surpasses even what is typically seen in her genre, raising questions about the limits of artistic expression in hip-hop.

Megan’s growth as a lyricist and her poise set her apart from her peers. However, Lover Girl marks a significant shift: it’s an extreme, provocative portrayal that goes beyond typical boundaries in hip-hop. My central argument is that this new direction crosses a line of artistic responsibility, which is why the criticism is warranted.

TikTok creators say the release distracts from the trouble facing her management company, Roc Nation. Megan responded on social media, claiming that negative critics are bots and that people were paid to target her.

The video and lyrics are among the most degrading I’ve seen from any rapper. I can’t help but wonder what her new boyfriend, Klay Thompson, thinks.

As a feminist, I’m still concerned about how a man views what the woman in his life does for work, especially when he seems decent. Megan has upgraded her partner as well. Before dating Thompson, as with so many others, physical appearance didn’t seem to matter. But Thompson, Dallas Mavericks shooting guard, is an impressive 6’5 and looks great in a tuxedo at Megan’s side on the red carpet. Is it fair to ask her to consider his feelings? I think so. Women should think about how their image affects their partners, especially when both are famous.

Clinton once asked what we want our legacies to be —a question that is relevant now. My concern is not just with the sexualized images but with how these representations impact cultural legacy, especially for women. The argument I present is about the consequences of such portrayals, not just their existence.

I’m sure Megan will do as she pleases. She’ll keep pushing videos where clothes are optional; nothing will be censored. The only standard will be a hairless lower half.

This criticism is not orchestrated. My main point is the legitimacy of concerns about Megan’s choices—they reflect real discomfort, not just online noise.
