We rely on them to keep us safe. We’re taught to respect their authority. They never pay for coffee, and they don’t have to be patrons to occupy public restrooms. Police officers help keep cities running efficiently nationwide. But when it goes wrong, the sound resonates like a church bell ringing in an intimate alcove.
Investigators discovered a Florida police officer performed a welfare check, found a man dead in his home, and then moved into it, reports say. The officer not only illegally made himself at home, but renovated the house and assumed the man’s identity. Officer Brian Louis Sguros faces charges of official misconduct, criminal use of a deceased person’s identification information, offense against a computer user, and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.
